Hurry up already! (How to post quickly)By: Guest Author
What happens when you are running late for work, you need to shower, walk the dog and write a blog post? There’s agood chance that you might skip the blog posting all together. We all know Stephen Covey’s famous Quadrant of important/urgent. But let’s face it, sometimes you just need to do it all. That’s when posting quickly helps. Try these techniques the next time you think of skipping that blog post.
Think of posts before hand
How do you kill time on your long commute or when waiting for someone? You probably listen to your i-pod, text or read. Think of ideas for your blog post instead. Times like these are ideal to design your next post in your mind or even on paper. It saves a lot more time than you can imagine. Keep an idea list in your iPhone or Blackberry. You can even write a post on your phone and email it to yourself to post later.
Draft a post whenever you get a free minute
Instead or Facebook-ing when free, create draft posts on your blog. You could make them elaborate or brief so long as they can serve as a sort of a reference point for a new post when you need to post quickly. Your best bet is to outline topics as they occur to you, and create drafts as a way to queue to them up. Then when you are in a hurry, you can grab one of these layups and take down a quick 2 points.
Fix a time
Try setting a specific time for blogging. That thought alone could give you the impetus to post. Since you are aware that you will post on a certain day at a certain time, you can arrange your schedule around that activity. You may never need to post in a rush again.
Create the mood
Do you like drinking orange juice or listening to the radio while writing? Do it! Make writing a post an activity you really look forward to even if you may not be inclined to write at that time. Make the task of blogging pleasurable and watch how fast you turn out great posts.
If you are the kind of person who thrives under pressure then capitalize on that. Put pressure on yourself for blogging. Set a deadline and reward yourself when you make it. If that still doesn’t work for you, think of your followers and you owe them regular content at a specific time.
Get rid of distractions
Try disconnecting the internet and setting your cell phone on silent mode when you post. Just keep typing till you are done. Although it might seem harsh, cutting out distractions can really help speed up the time you spend in writing posts.
Posting quality posts quickly is a skill that you develop over time. But it’s a really useful skill to posses. Posting quickly makes you productive and blogging doesn’t feel like a chore but a fun activity that doesn’t take away too much of your time.
